Outback Active is a free 12-week telefit program for seniors in the Katherine region. It is designed to help you stay active, healthy and independent.
What's included:
- Personalised exercise prescriptions
- Aerobic, strength, balance and flexibility training
- 1:1 and small group sessions
- Supervised by an exercise scientist and exercise physiologist
Who can join
- Seniors 65+ years living in the Katherine region
- First Nations people 50+ years living in the Katherine region.
Outback Active is supported by funding from Northern Territory PHN through the Australian Government's PHN Program.
What to expect
Expression of interest
Potential participants express an interest in joining the program. Self-referrals and organistion referrals welcomed.
We accept new clients all year long.
Eligibility check
A team member will contact you to assess your eligibility. You will be asked about your age, general health and wellbeing, and your digital literacy.
If eligible, you’ll be enrolled in a 12-week personalised online exercise program, with sessions delivered twice a week.
If not eligible, you will be notified and encouraged to speak with your GP about alternative referral options.
Equipment bundle
Eligible participants will receive a free exercise equipment bundle for use during the program.
Telehealth sessions
Exercise professionals and supervised students from Charles Darwin University deliver one-on-one and small group sessions focused on improving strength, fitness, and wellbeing.
All sessions are delivered online in a ‘telehealth’ format. Participants join the sessions using a desktop computer, laptop or tablet and enjoy the live, interactive sessions over the internet.
If needed, clients may also attend sessions in the telehealth room at the CDU Katherine Campus (19 Second Street, Katherine).
Program completion
At the end of the 12-week program, participants are encouraged to continue following their exercise plans to support ongoing health and wellness.
Fees
This program is free of charge and made possible by funding from the Northern Territory Primary Health Network.

For those without internet access or a suitable device, sessions can also be attended in the telehealth room at the University's Katherine Town campus (19 Second Street, Katherine).
